The SodaStream Penguin is an elegant home carbonation machine that allows you to make sparkling water or soda with the push of a single button. No batteries or electricity are required, making this an excellent companion on road trips or boat rides.
The SodaStream Penguin is one of the older SodaStream models but it is still one of the higher end SodaStream models, featuring glass carafes instead of BPA-free Plastic bottles.

First and foremost, the SodaStream Penguin has a sleek and futuristic design that makes it feel almost like you’re using a machine from the future. The shape actually resembles a penguin, which may not be a big selling point for some people but is definitely a great bonus for others.
As an added bonus (which will make you feel even more like you’re living in the future), the SodaStream Penguin carbonates your drinks more quickly than other old SodaStream machines and even some of the newest models.
The SodaStream Penguin also uses glass carafes rather than the plastic bottles most SodaStream machines use. Unlike the plastic bottles, which are only designed to be reused for 3 years, the glass carafes can last forever, even outlasting the machine itself.
The main drawback of the SodaStream Penguin is about size. Both the glass carafes and the carbonator are smaller on the Penguin than on other SodaStream models. This means you’ll have to buy multiple carafes if you drink a lot of carbonated water/soda or frequently have guests who do, and you’ll also have to refill your carbonator more often(roughly every 30L).
Despite the small carafes and carbonator, the SodaStream Penguin is also one of the heaviest SodaStream models. It’s still a great option for the cottage or RV, but you won’t want to drag it with you to one night events.
Last but not least, as one of the older SodaStream models the Penguin does not feature an automatic locking mechanism, forcing you to screw the bottle into place yourself. This can get quite messy if you’re not careful.

The SodaStream Penguin is a highly effective home carbonation machine with a sweet futuristic look. The glass carafes help you cut plastic entirely out of your life and when sealed can keep carbonation in for several days at a time. If you find a used SodaStream Penguin for a good price and you love sparkling water or soda, it could be a great investment.
All of that said, if you’re a serious soda/sparkling water drinker, you may want to consider investing in one of the newer SodaStream models with customizable carbonation or even an older model that features a larger carbonator.
